Perfect for My Needs

Plenty of room for 2 tennis racquets plus a pickleball paddle, several cans of balls, towels, shirt change and miscellaneous items (sunglasses, sunscreen, overgrips, etc.). I bike or moped to my courts; the pack is comfortable and secure. The various compartments are well thought out. Solidly made, should last for years.

High-quality, well-built, and thoughtfully-designed tennis backpack

Short review / Summary:
The Axiom Backpack 2.0 is a high-quality, well-built, thoughtfully-designed tennis backpack. It's a great option for those who want a compact carrying solution and don’t need the extra space offered in larger traditional racquet bags.

Long review:
I've been using this backpack for about a month now, so maybe close to a dozen times or so. I can't speak on how long this bag will last given the short amount of time I've had it, but given the quality of the materials used and the bag being built like a tank, I wouldn’t worry about this bag’s lifespan. The craftsmanship is excellent; it feels SOLID. No stitch out of place, the zippers are great (albeit a tad jangly), and the handle and shoulder straps are plentifully padded. The included sternum strap is also nice to have for those who use it. The smaller outermost top compartment is good for holding the everyday carry items – phone, wallet, keys, etc. The main interior compartment has a good amount of space and is fairly easy to access because of how the bag opens up. Width wise, I can fit three cans of tennis balls lined up vertically side-by-side with the shoe compartment collapsed (see picture). With the three cans inside, there is still space on top to pile in more stuff. In terms of the racquet compartment, I was skeptical of how much space there would be for two racquets, but the good news is that it holds two normal-sized racquets just fine. The side pockets for holding bottles are great as well and the magnetic closures on them are a nice touch. I would also like to mention what may be my favorite feature: the hanging hook. As a person who has only ever used a traditional racquet bag before this backpack, being able to hang the bag on the fence is fantastic.

Potential areas for improvement:
While there’s a lot to like with this bag, I think it could be even better. Chris, if you’re reading this, I’d love to know your thoughts on what I’m mentioning here. The hanging hook is great, but when I used it for the very first time, the rubber tip of the hook immediately fell off. I honestly didn’t even know it was there to begin with until it fell off. Now I just leave it off and it’s fine. This next thing I’ll say is rather trivial, but I admittedly needed some time getting used to looking at this bag. What I mean is that if I don’t stuff the main compartment with gear (which I never will), the front of the bag looks nothing like the pictures online. Given how the bag is constructed, there will always be a large inward crease going across the front of the bag, right underneath the bottom of the small outer compartment (see picture). I have no issue with it now, but it bothered me for some time. Speaking of construction, the shape of the opening to the main compartment makes using the zippers feel like a two-step process. It’s really not all that hard to open, but I think about it every time. I have to bring the zipper pull to the top corner, then I feel a slight resistance, and then I pull around the corner. Maybe it’s just a user skill issue on my part, but maybe it could be even easier. The last thing I’ll mention is the zipper mesh pocket of the main compartment. Again, potentially user error, but I am wary of stuff falling out of the pocket when the main compartment is fully open and I need to access the pocket. The placement of the pocket’s zipper is great when you’re holding the main compartment flap with one hand and putting stuff in using your other hand, but the orientation is upside down when the flap is hanging in front of the bag. This means you have to hold the flap upright to take things out. But how nice would it be to have the flap hanging by itself and be able to unzip without fear of falling items? My idea of a solution is to build in another zipper on the opposite end of the pocket (see picture), but I don’t know if that overcomplicates the design and would be too costly for production.

Thanks for this very comprehensive review. I'll definitely keep this insight on hand for if/when I develop a v3 of this backpack.
Chris
